What is Kalaripayattu?

Kalari - The place where we practice, Payattu - Exercise of Skills

Kalaripayattu – Battlefield, is among the oldest martial arts in the world with its origin in Kerala, South India. It is known as the mother of martial arts and its ultimate goal is to cultivate and optimize mind-body coordination and sharp reflexes. Through generations, it has been acknowledged and respected across the globe. This martial arts practice embraces scientific knowledge as well as the wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga – especially their healing techniques. Keen practitioners of Kalaripayattu are also well acquainted with the pressure points on the human body. Kalari is a combination of strikes, kicks, grappling, weaponry, healing methods, and also incorporates the fine finger movements. The beauty lies in the grace of this personal combat training.
